UD Trucks Thailand has completed the installation of 1,850 solar panels at its factory in Samut Prakan, located on the outskirts of Bangkok. This collaboration with Berkeley Energy Commercial Industrial Solutions (BECIS) will provide 1,477 MWh of renewable electricity every year. It will reduce CO2 emissions by an estimated 16%, or roughly 700 tons CO2 per year. The solar rooftop has the capacity to provide up to 25% of the electricity used at the plant.
With the goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050, UD Trucks is lowering its carbon footprint by actively using renewable energy sources. In addition to the solar roof project, the Samut Prakan factory has invested in initiatives focused on zero waste to landfill, 100% waste recycling and reducing energy consumption. Yoshiyuki Kobayashi, Head of UD Trucks Operations Bangkok, said: “This is the first UD Trucks factory to install solar panels on such a scale. Our commitment towards sustainability and great collaboration with partners have been instrumental in achieving this key milestone. By utilizing environmentally sustainable technologies at our production facilities, we will significantly contribute to Isuzu Group’s target of a 50% reduction in carbon emissions by 2030, compared to 2013.” Ugo Bernal, Director of Commercial Solutions BECIS, said: “It was my pleasure to participate at the UD Trucks’ launch of the 1 MWp Solar PV rooftop facility.
